The unique undulating land, which had been formed during centuries of agriculture and grazing, helped Braid to design a course that is appealing to golfers of all levels.
The par 70 layout measures less that 6300 yards from the back tees, yet, despite recent innovations in club and ball technology, John Dockar's course record of 64 has remained intact for nearly a quarter of a century.

The tight tree lined fairways punish any wayward drives and the classic Braid bunkering makes club selection difficult for approach shots. Even after a solid drive and precision approach, a par is not always guaranteed. The fast, subtle, undulating greens represent a challenge for even the best putters. Hull Golf Club is a course with a tough start, long finishes and offers spectacular views over the City of Hull, Humber Estuary and the magnificent Humber Bridge.

The 200-year-old Kirk Ella Hall is a truly stunning clubhouse – the envy of every course in the area. A grade II listed building, it has welcomed members and visitors alike since Hull Golf Club purchased the property in 1924. The clubhouse boasts recently refurbished locker rooms, snooker room, a comfortable lounge, a generously proportion dining room and a large patio area overlooking the 12th fairway.

A true Yorkshire welcome is guaranteed before or after any round of golf, with home cooked food, prepared by our chefs Yousuf (Joe) and Jane, not to be missed.    Hull Golf Clubs fish and chips are worth a visit alone, but catering can be tailored to meet your own requirements, whether it be a bacon roll after a round of golf or a five course a la carte meal for a private function.    To view the bar menu Click here

Our professional and courteous staff  (Manageress Karen Spencer,  with Matthew, James and Stewart) will look after you during your visit. Why not arrive early and enjoy a ‘light bite' and a hot drink before taking on the tough James Braid layout. After your round, enjoy a drink in the comfortable lounge and plan your next trip – first time visitors always return to Hull Golf Club.

David Jagger (To see his CV click here) hosts the fully stocked pro shop which houses all the leading brand of clubs, clothing and accessories and the staff always ensure that the club competitions or visiting societies are looked after throughout the day. The large trolley shed at the back of the pro shop houses a workshop for club repairs and re-gripping services and three state of the art indoor driving nets. (To see what David sells click here)

Hull Golf Club can proudly boast to have produced some fine amateur talent over the last century. Since the inception of the Yorkshire Union in 1894, fifteen men and one lady have played for the full senior side. As a club, Hull first won the Yorkshire 1st Division Team Championships in 1933, before ending a 65 year drought by bringing the title back to Kirk Ella in1998. The players who became known as Hull's “golden generation” soon added further titles in 2002 and 2003. The ultimate accolade however, is to represent one's country, something achieved by three members in recent times.

JAMES HEALEY – Won the Yorkshire Amateur Championship in 1993 and was part of the White Rose side, which won the English County finals later that same year. He went on to represent England Boys, before winning the coveted Spanish Amateur Championship in 1994. He joined the paid ranks a year later and became the first member of the Hull Golf Club to play on the USPGA tour when he qualified for the Phoenix Open in 2002.

RICHARD COULSON – Richard Coulson represented England Boys in all 3 Home Internationals in 1998 and 1999, won the EGU Northern Boys title in 1999 and was part of the powerful Yorkshire side which won the English County Title in 2001 alongside Hull colleague Richard Finch. Coulson was also reserve to the three member English Boy's Team in 1998 and won the Consolation Cup for third place in the Portuguese Amateur Championship.

RICHARD FINCH – Won the Yorkshire Amateur Title in 2002, a year after capturing the Spanish Amateur Title. A regular England International, Richard was crowned English Amateur Champion in 2002 and took the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy the following summer as well as being on England's winning European Team Championship side. He has since turned pro and finished tied second in the 2005 Italian Open and has full playing rights on the PGA European Tour.  Richard won the 2007 NEW ZEALAND OPEN and the 2008 IRISH OPEN

THE GOLF COURSE

Out on the course the opening four holes offer variety in terms of distance, undulation, and par, and give you a sense of the challenges that lie ahead. Following the tricky 8th, ringed by numerous bunkers, is Hull's stroke 1 hole named West Ella. With out of bounds on the right, players must keep their ball left down the sloping fairway, which sweeps downhill in a gentle dogleg around a large copse of trees, before facing a long uphill second to a two tiered green. A par 4 here is a rare feat indeed and many cards have been wrecked even before turning for home.

You then come to Hull feature hole, the 10th. Anything from a 1 to a 15 has been recorded here over the years! A downhill driveable par 4 with a picturesque pond eating into the front and right of the green makes this the ultimate risk and reward hole. Mid irons off the tee usually only leave a wedge in, but those who take the driver can expect an eagle putt, a watery grave or, worse still, three off the tee with out of bounds hugging the right side of the fairway.   You could, of course, admire the beautiful fountains donated by the Hull Golf Club EGGS Section!.   To complete the dream round, the final challenge is to par the tough 17th and 18th, each measuring 430 yards. Whether you are celebrating or drowning your sorrows, the 200-year-old clubhouse awaits, offering a warm and friendly place to share your golfing stories like so many have before you.
